Thank you to all the students parents and teache rs that attended the Spring Concert last night! My favorite part was definitely the Star Wars theme!

The students wrote their sky science unit test today. The test was /30 and was entirely made out of PAT questions. Students have already graded their tests and know their marks. Test will be sent home Monday.

After science, students were given several mathletics assignments to complete on angles.

Once they were done the students had some time to work on their social projects. These projects are due next Friday and I expect all students to work on the project over the weekend.

We finished off our day with buddies with the Kindergartens and Gym!

Today the students began their day with an extended visit to music. They are diligently prepping for the concert on Thursday.

After music the students wrote their second last basic facts test for this year! The class average was... 77%! A great mark!

In the middle block of the day the students had a rehearsal with the students from the SJAM band and Jazz band. What an amazing opportunity for the young musicians to see what is coming in the next few years.

In the afternoon our class was introduced to their new social project. This project involves showing what they know through a Travel Guide to Ancient Athens! This project is designed to have students get ready for grade 7 by completing a project on their own time. I have given the students everything they need to be successful in this project. It is up to them to put it into a typed brochure/travel guide or hand write/draw the project.
Below is the task and rubric for the assignment as well as some links to help out with the research.

Students finished off their day with a visit to Mr Mueller to begin science presentations. These presentations were due today...but if yours is not finished then you need to make sure it is done before it is your turn to present.

Have a great evening!

Science Test Next Friday

Today the students began their day with their area, volume, perimeter quiz. This unit along with several units in grade 6 requires a good understanding of basic facts. That is why it is so important for students to push themselves to master those basic facts each day!

After math, the students went to science to work on their last hour of science projects before their due date Monday! Use the 5 days on the long weekend to get everything done!

In the afternoon the students finished their social booklets on ancient Athens before heading off to an assembly.

As many of us are well aware there have been far too many incidents in grade 6 this year. Students getting in fights, being rude, and saying nasty comments has been at an all time high. This theme has been happening across all grades. Mr Hebert called an assembly to discuss the importance of good behavior and to inform the students that they will be doing a weekly discussion/exploration of positive behaviors. As a school we can turn these behaviors around.

Hope to see everyone at parent teacher conferences tomorrow!

Happy Thursday May 9

Reminders:
Student led conferences next Thursday. 8-12 am and 3:30-7:30 pm
Area, perimeter, volume quiz next Wednesday

Well we did it room 14, one PAT down!  Yesterday the students took up to four hours to write their LA part A PAT.

Today we began our day with an extra long music class. This music class is designed to get us ready for our concert in the coming weeks!

After music the students had their final dance class in gym!

After Gym we moved into doing our IRIS goals. Each student had to find an artifact and reflect on how the artifact proves they met their goal. All of the students used tests, reading aloud, showing stories, and class work to prove they met their goals.

In the afternoon students had their first lesson on volume. This unit is actually quite simple and adds one more dimension to length and width...Height! l x w x h! It is that simple!

Tomorrow we will be doing a mini quiz after our lesson to check students understanding.

The end of the day finished with a presentation on Sun safety. Be safe out there and make sure you wear your sunscreen this summer :)

Have a great day!

LA PAT Part A next Wednesday All morning

Today the students began their day with revisiting Area and perimeter problems. We are currently working through the trickiest types of problems in this unit. I assigned the mathletics tasks for this unit today and they have some excellent problems for the students to solve.

After math the students wrote their Article quiz quiz which tests their breakdown and analysis skills for articles.

After the quiz we marked it and moved into creating excellent closes for articles.
An excellent close should wrap up the article, say whether the article will continue and finally provide a destination to seek out additional information such as a website.

In the afternoon students got their articles back and we looked at the positives and areas of growths needed for the PAT on Wednesday.

Tons of LA today!

After LA we moved into gym in which the students enjoyed a choice of dodgeball, basketball or badminton.

Below is two picture prompts and fact sheet for students to practice writing a story and an article for the PAT!

Today the students were wrote their official second practice PAT in preparation for next week. Students were able to practice writing both and article and a story based off a fact sheet and picture prompt.
I will be marking all the stories and articles this weekend to provide feedback to students before writing their PAT on Wednesday.

I want students to enjoy their weekend, eat well, relax and get some quality rest before the PAT next week. Students should not be panicking or stressing over the PAT... It is one article, one story and over 4 hours to write both. Tons of time and we have written several stories and articles throughout the year. No Stress :)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Practice PAT tomorrow for LA part A
LA PAT Part A next Wednesday All morning

Today the students began their day by working through a difficult Area Problem as seen below...

Alongside solving this problem students had to prove their work with another strategy and write a connection to another unit.

In LA we spent one hour reviewing and giving feedback to peers. We are writing another practice PAT tomorrow and students gave growth feedback to support each other for tomorrow. We used two checklists to support the feedback provided to students.

In the afternoon we practiced writing plans for stories based off a picture prompt. I emphasized to the students that you need to plan a story before starting to write for best success. We also reviewed the six traits of writing including:
1. Ideas
2. Organization
3. Voice
4. Sentences
5. Vocabulary
6. Conventions

Good luck tomorrow everyone!
