Today the students began their day by sharing some of the poems they have been working on for their final poetry anthology. Several students were excited to share limericks, acrostic, concrete, shape and ballad poems! With our new document camera students are able to see other students work and highlight examples of literary terms and comment of areas of improvement.

After LA we continued into morning math working on place value and + - of decimal problems. Tomorrow we will be having our quiz that reviews these concepts and pushes the students to solve tricky problems. Tomorrow I will be sending home our basics facts quiz from yesterday that should be signed and returned tomorrow. This test was a measure of the concepts learned within grade 5 moving into grade 6. It is my recommendation that if your child scored below 11/15 on the test they should be asking for extra help, going on mathletics, and practicing to improve their computation skills.

After math, the students were able to learn about the process of how people get elected to be mayors and councillors. We learned about the importance of the election, the election process and did a mock vote for which grade 6 teacher would make the best councillor for ward 4. Mr Lancee won :)

Probably the most exciting part of the day (other then math class of course!) was having the students take part in swimming lessons! Students were split into small groups based off their ability level and had a splash in the pool! Laps were swam, fun was had, overall a great day!
